When children discover reading ...
Starting school usually means learning how to read. In order to be successful in this difficult and necessary task, children must have and use many skills. For example, children learn that words are made of phonemes (phoneme is a group of phones (speech sounds or sign elements) that are cognitively equivalent) must have an excellent understanding literature and be prepared with different materials such as books. Recent studies have shown that both parents and educators can encourage children to develop skills since early childhood.
The role of parents and family
First, a researcher in Canada sought to determine the impact of exposure to small to read or write with Another form of letters and words teaching reading skills in third grade. It consequently followed 168 children from families middle and high class area of Ottawa, Ontario, for five years. Researchers concluded that early exposure to new material Various print contributed to the development of better reading in third grade. Association between parental education and reading, work much less clear. However, there are probably a key element in children's success in learning reading, which is a awareness of phonology, which can be stimulated by punctuating the verses and poetry reading.
Canadian study also shows the importance of exposure in young children the language, especially poetry, songs and rhymes. Programs where parents and children to listen to songs simple rhymes and should be favored. One of the biggest challenges in helping families, especially poor families, is the integration of reading a daily basis among preschool children. For many parents, buying books is not an option. On the other another, many parents feel anxious to go to the library. More research must be done on the subject, in order to develop more programs to include families of all socio-economic levels in reading and writing, a important element of early childhood.
The role of educators
Many children spend several hours a day every day care, researchers have also begun to examine the influence of educators and child interactions in language development. Thus, surprise, researchers found that when teachers responded better to children of efforts to contacted, encouraged conversation among peers help children to express their ideas and expand their vocabulary words suggesting them and new concepts, those kids developed better communication and language skills. Another Canadian study showed that children benefit when their teachers have been trained to provide quality languages interaction good. Children whose teachers were trained to use more combination of words tend to spoken most often with their peers.
This research confirms what many have noticed. This illustrates such difference can do a training. Moreover, training has not created new conditions and costly for educators as it resulted in additional work for them. Training only required to raise their level of awareness. By making small changes in their interactions with children educators can make such great impact in children. We just improve the quality of children's interaction-educators.
